For this reason, we would like to highlight some of the actions we carry out throughout our cultivation processes that can have a positive or neutral impact on nature conservation and the sustainable use of resources.

Agriculture faces many challenges, but it can also be part of the solution: preserving biodiversity, addressing climate change, and transitioning toward bioenergy. Below, we explain how Sesajal® approaches these three areas.

Biodiversity

Biological diversity is vital to human life, as we depend on it for food, water, energy, natural resources, and more. However, the global population is expected to increase by 50% by 2050, putting biodiversity at increasing risk.

At Sesajal®, we recognize the need to promote sustainable increases in agricultural productivity while also protecting and maintaining an adequate level of wild biodiversity. This approach helps minimize negative physical and socioeconomic impacts.

Climate Change

As a company in the agribusiness sector, we recognize the need to work toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing further increases in global temperatures. If we fail to do so, food production, public health, and the environment would all be affected.

Mass deforestation, livestock feedlots, and the use of fertilizers, for example, account for 25% of the increase in these emissions. In addition, sudden climate events such as droughts, storms, and floods pose a threat to agroecosystems.

We believe agriculture can be part of the solution to climate change when agricultural systems based on ecological criteria are implemented, replacing, for example, the use of carbon. Another action we take is to provide farmers with training on climate-related issues, helping them learn how to monitor crops and assess them from the perspectives of vulnerability and land management.
